Catriona Chalmers

Catriona Chalmers has been living and working in Japan since 1990. She was born in England but lived in various countries as a child. This gave her a love for travel that has never left. She set off on a working holiday to Australia, but stopped in Singapore on the way, and knew that she really wanted to be in Asia.

After teaching in Thailand for about a year, she went to Japan and began teaching there. She has worked mostly with young learners in literacy and story development, helping students to write and tell their own stories.

She has also worked as a Teacher-Trainer for various schools and took part in teacher-training workshops in Nepal, with an organization called “Teachers Helping Teachers”.

These days she works mostly freelance, writing and editing. She began writing graded readers in 2015 and has written about 30 books for several different publishers. She recently started self-publishing with her writing and editing partner, under the publisher name of Snicket & Ginnel.

Trafficked, published by Abax Japan, won a 2022 Language Learner Literature Award from the Extensive Reading Foundation.

She believes she will finish writing All the Spaces In Between, a memoir about life in Japan, any day now…
